What... The... F*&%??? AKA Jose Canseco fighting @ K-1 Dream 9

So, I go over to Bloody Elbow to see the latest MMA news and I see something about K-1 putting on a "Super Hulk" tournament with the fights being:

Bob Sapp(>300 lbs) vs. Ikuhisa Minowa(185 lbs)

Jan "The Giant" Nortje(>300 lbs) vs. Soukoudjou(200 lbs)

Mark Hunt(>300 lbs) vs. Gegard Mousasi(200 lbs)

and... Here is the greatest fight of all time,

Hong-Man Choi (>300 lbs >7 feet tall) vs Jose Canseco (Yes, THAT Jose Canseco)

My first thought is that it's Japanese April Fool's Day or something, but then I go to K-1's official English website, and... there it is, in all it's glory http://www.k-1.co.jp/k-1gp/top922.htm Holy Crap, this looks like it's real. And I can only hope that it is. I would love to watch this tournament. Besides the "Super Hulk" tournament, there are a bunch of other great fights on this card, Ronaldo "Jacare" vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller (the host of Bully Beatdown for those of you that only know him as a TV host). And the 2nd round of the Featherweight tournament, with the return of "Kid" Yamamoto. Who was, at one time, considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

Damnit, I wish I had money to go to Japan to see this. Or at least if I had HDNet, if they're even showing it...

DAY 2

Here's what I have to say... 2 things.
1. "People used to say we'd see a black president when pigs fly... Well, 100 days into Obama's presidency and... swine flu." -some conservative idiot(I'm assuming)
This has got to be the dumbest "joke" I have ever heard...
A. Pig's aren't flying, so that's a stupid connection in the first place.
B. The "Swine Flu" started long before Obama was even in office.

And here's another thing I've been thinking about.
Here's something I just found... http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/news/20090107/childs-death-is-first-of-flu-season
That's right... A kid from MN died from the Flu in January, not the "swine" flu, but the regular old flu that everyone hears about and get's a shot in the arm for every "flu" season. I'm sure there have been more since then, like there always are. But has anyone heard about them? I'm gonna say that the majority of people will have not. I'm not going to downplay the potential hazards of this flu, but I'm not going to live in a bunker all by myself just because someone contracted a virus. Settle down people, if you contract this flu, and you start feeling sick, go to your doctor and get the proper medication and everything will be just fine.

Edison High School on Fox 9 News

My co-worker, Ken, was on Fox 9 News tonight during the Swine Flu segment.

Video here: http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/news/Schools_Taking_Swine_Flu_Precautions_april_29_2009
Notice that he's not wearing gloves when he's cleaning the door handle or the sink... Good Job Ken, way to show that we can be safe while we're protecting against a deadly virus...

Thoughts on UFC 97

I don't really blame Anderson Silva for fighting the way he did at 97. He was fighting a really dangerous guy in Thales Leites, a guy with considerably more bulk than him. Maybe Silva thought Leites was dangerous enough that he could land a good shot that could knock him down or out up until the end, and he couldn't risk that.

Now, that being said, he should've put on a better show. You can say he wanted to hold his belt until he retires (rumored to be sometime soon), or that he just wasn't on his game. But he's the champion for a reason, he sells tickets and pay-per-views, he should be trying to sell as many as he can, by putting up a good fight and knocking out his opponent if necessary.

On to Chuck Liddell... I know he's old, and I know he hasn't been doing good at all lately, but still, I love to see the guy fight, and I know he can still knock out some good competition. If anything, Chuck could still be a good "gatekeeper" to the UFC's LHW division. Maybe a fight with "Banha" Cane could be next. Although I don't see that ending well for Chuck either. But Cane looked good, and Chuck could be a good win for him to step up to that next level.

Anyways, that's it for now... Pacquiao/Hatton is this weekend, I'll be giving my thoughts on that next.
